If you’re in San Francisco and craving some killer dim sum, Good Mong Kok Bakery is the place to be. This spot has been serving up fresh, to-go dim sum since 1996, and let me tell you—it delivers. The place itself is pretty small (I think 5-6 people max could fit inside at a time). But that doesn’t stop a line of people from waiting to get their goodies. 🥢✨
What to Expect
- Super casual – No seating or tables, just order and go.
- Cash & Card Accepted – just so ya know.
- A Line. Midweek was a short line, but I’ve heard the weekend line can get crazy. Definitely recommend getting there early if you can.
📍 Location: 1039 Stockton St, San Francisco
💰 Price: Insanely affordable
⏳ Vibe: Quick, no-frills, grab-and-go
What I Ordered
🥢 BBQ Pork Bun ($2) – Absolute Perfection
- Fluffiest bun I’ve ever had. Very cloud-like. I can be picky about my buns, if it’s too dense I don’t usually like them. These were pillowy + soft.
- Perfect ratio of bun to filling.
- BBQ pork was tender, flavorful, and slightly sweet—so good I wish they’d just sell it over a bowl of rice. I definitely would’ve went back for that.
- Would I eat $100 worth of these? Absolutely.
🍮 Steamed Egg Tart ($1.80) – Silky + Smooth
- I thought of it as a Chinese version of pastel de nata, but steamed.
- Not too sweet, just the perfect eggy, custardy bite.
- I wish I didn’t order JUST one!!!
The Highlights
✅ Unbeatable value – Huge portions, tiny price.
✅ Insanely tasty – You’d expect to pay double for this quality.
✅ Legit must-try if you’re visiting SF.
Any Downsides?
The employees can be a little… cranky. Not rude, just very to the point. Very get-in-get-out energy. Know your order by the time you get to the counter.
Final Verdict – Would I Recommend It?
1000% YES. From the best pork bun I’ve ever had to a menu packed with things I now regret not ordering, this place is a dim sum dream. If you’re looking for a fast, cheap, and crazy delicious food stop in SF, Good Mong Kok Bakery is a must-add to your itinerary. I had heard about San Francisco being a popular foodie city, and I get it now.
