If you’re in San Francisco and thinking about trying Sweet Maple, you’ve probably heard the hype—especially about their Millionaire’s Bacon. This spot is known for its brunch, with a menu that’s all over the Food Network and travel guides. But does it live up to the fame? For me, it was a skip. Here’s why:
What to Expect
- Casual Brunch Vibes – Bright interior, but seating can be tight—I was practically in the kitchen and elbow-to-elbow with the people next to me.
- Fast Seating & Great Service – No complaints here, they got me in quickly and the staff was solid.
- Pricey for What You Get – Brunch in SF isn’t cheap, but $15 for bacon and $17 for French toast? I expected better.
📍 Location: 2101 Sutter St, San Francisco
💰 Price: On the high side for brunch, bacon overpriced
⏳ Vibe: Cozy but cramped
What I Ordered & My Thoughts
🥓 Millionaire’s Candy Bacon ($15) – Underwhelming & Overhyped
- I got the “Millionaire’s Candy” version, which is their famous Millionaire’s Bacon, cooked well done.
- It came cold. For 4 slices at $15, I expected something fresh.
- It’s thick, slightly sweet and flavorful, but not worth a special trip.
- Honestly, I don’t get why this is considered one of the top bacons in America—but hey, to each their own.
🍞 Big Hip (Deep-Fried French Toast) ($17) – Heavy & Greasy
- Sounds amazing in theory, but it left me feeling way too heavy.
- The deep-fried part didn’t add much besides heaviness.
- I wanted a crispy outside and soft inside, but it was just dense.
The Highlights
✅ Good service & quick seating – No crazy brunch wait although I feel this place definitely draws a crowd on the weekends. My food came out super fast, which was nice.
Downsides?
❌ The seating is tight – You might end up inches from another table.
❌ Overhyped food – The famous bacon didn’t live up to its reputation.
❌ Not worth the price – $32 for cold bacon & heavy French toast? Nope from me.
Final Verdict
Would I recommend Sweet Maples? Not really. If you’re a die-hard bacon fan and must try the Millionaire’s Bacon, sure. Otherwise, I’m sure there are better brunch spots in SF. The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t worth going out of my way for.
San Francisco has tons of incredible food. For me, Sweet Maple didn’t make the cut. If you’ve been here drop a comment, I’d love to know your thoughts on this breakfast spot + its famous (or infamous?) bacon!
